Job Position Summary
The General Manager of Supply Chain Services provides strategic leadership and executive oversight for the entire global supply chain service delivery function. This role is accountable for designing and executing a resilient, efficient, and cost-effective supply chain strategy that aligns with the company's long-term corporate objectives. A key measure of success for this role is the stakeholder satisfaction with the services they receive from the Supply Chain buyers.
The role will focus on leadership of service delivery within the Supply Chain function - A global network of purchasing and logistics teams responsible for the flawless execution of all transactional activities and related tasks, ensuring timely and cost-effective service to our vessels. For clarity, this role is not accountable for supplier contracting.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
• Develop and execute the overarching global supply chain service strategy, encompassing internal service delivery, purchasing, invoice management, logistics, order administration and stakeholder management.
• Define and own the long-term vision, operational goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the entire supply chain organisation.
• Act as the principal advisor to the Procurement Director on all supply chain matters, including risk management, market trends, and strategic opportunities.
• Lead enterprise-wide transformation initiatives to enhance supply chain service capabilities, drive digitalisation, and deliver sustainable competitive advantage.
• Continuous improvement of the global procurement policy, processes and governance framework to ensure consistency, compliance, and ethical practices across all purchasing activities.
• Champion the strategic roadmap for e-procurement systems and digital tools, reducing manual effort, minimising knowledge dependency, and empowering stakeholders through self-service.
• Set the strategy for vendor data management, ensuring the integrity of the vendor database and ensuring the buyers drive spend through strategically preferred suppliers to eliminate leakage.
• Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement, using analytics to identify and eliminate inefficiencies in the end-to-end supply chain process.
Oversight of Supply Chain Service Delivery
• Direct the Senior Lead Buyers to ensure the efficient, compliant, and cost-effective execution of all transactional procurement, logistics and invoice clearing services for the global fleet.
• Ensure the consistent achievement of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and operational targets by the various buying teams.
• Serve as the ultimate point of escalation for critical operational disruptions and significant logistical challenges, ensuring swift and effective resolution.
• Drive a high-performance culture focused on impeccable customer service, operational excellence, and cost-consciousness within the service delivery organisation.
Stakeholder & People Management
• Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with senior internal stakeholders (e.g., C-Suite, Executive Directors, Product Directors, General Managers) and strategic external partners to ensure alignment and achieve shared objectives.
• Lead the planning and design of the supply chain organisational structure, ensuring resources are optimally allocated to support business growth and operational demands.
• Mentor and develop direct reports, building a strong leadership pipeline and ensuring the technical and professional growth of the entire supply chain team.
Relationship (mostly Internal and or External) and Nature of Communication
• Internal: Maintains strategic partnerships with C-level executives, Fleet Directors, General managers, Procurement Category Teams and other department heads to align supply chain strategy with overall business goals.
• External: Represents the company at an executive level with strategic suppliers, technology partners, and industry bodies. Leads high-stakes discussions with external auditors and fleet owners.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field.
• A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in supply chain or procurement, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership capacity overseeing a large, global team that experiences a high transactional volume of work.
• Demonstrable experience of leading transformation projects and managing teams through change and uncertainty.
• Proven experience leading a shared services business function or centralised procurement environment, experience within the Ship Management or a related maritime/industrial sector would be a benefit.
• A proven track record of a relentless focus on service delivery and service improvement in a complex organisation.
Desirable
• Master's degree or MBA.
• Extensive experience leading large-scale digital transformation projects and leveraging modern e-procurement systems.
• Demonstrated success in developing and executing global supply chain strategies that have delivered measurable improvements in cost, efficiency, and resilience.
• Strong financial acumen.
