Job Position Summary
An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to contribute to all efforts across our IT programme which includes new solutions based around rebuilding our custom in-house PARIS platform.
The successful candidate will be responsible for taking a key role for driving quality across our team of IT professionals and ensuring the delivery of robust, sustainable and flexible solutions to best meet strategic goals. This role is a key part of Fleet’s focus to develop leading digital capability to enhance and improve our platforms deployed over 600 ships
Key Roles and Responsibilities
As a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, your typical day might include:
Participating in the Quality Assurance of Front-end and Back-end Software
• Working closely with the development team to guarantee the quality for both front-end and back-end components following industry best-practices and in adherence with architectural principles
• Setting the expectations and standards for other Quality Assurance Engineers to guarantee the quality of the overall platform. This includes functional and non-functional requirements such as performance, stability, and security.
• Take lead in identify innovative solutions in line with technology trends to both demonstrate how the Quality Assurance team can help solve automation problems effectively and efficiently
• Co-ordinate with others on Quality Assurance efforts to ensure timelines and quality standards can be met.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
• Work closely with the Programme Manager and Business Analyst to make sure plans are well constructed and deliverables are supported properly from a Quality Assurance perspective
• Collaborate with other Software Engineers, QA Engineers, UX Designers and Business Analysts, to understand needs and how best to deliver innovative solutions to meet and exceed expectations
• Communicating clearly and concisely Quality Assurance decisions to both IT team members and stakeholders (such as product owners) using the appropriate level of detail
Mentoring & Teamwork
• Introduce, define, and lead Quality Assurance activities & initiatives
• Coach and guide other Quality Assurance Engineers in developing their technical capabilities
• Share experience, technical expertise, best practices and helping the IT team to overcome hurdles.
Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications
ESSENTIAL
• 5+ years’ experience in a Quality Assurance Engineering role working with JavaScript/TypeScript or Java
• Strong Quality Assurance mindset that can be demonstrated in both:
o Manual Testing
o Automation Testing with the Robot Framework or Selenium Web Driver.
• Hands-on experience in setting up and identifying performance issues using tools such as Apache JMeter
• Being able to write & run complex queries on databases such as Postgres, Oracle and MariaDB
• Can demonstrate planning and leading activities to implement and make best use of Application Performance Monitoring & Debugging tools such as: ElasticSearch, Prometheus, New Relic and/or Firebase
• Effective and confident communication skills in written and spoken English – including with stakeholders outside of IT
DESIRABLE
• Thorough understanding of Quality Assurance concepts and tool such as: Docker, CI/CD & Jenkins.
• Have led and guided other Quality Assurance Engineers through challenging situations, both in terms of project complexity and technical complexity.
• Worked successful in an Agile Team before, either Scrum, XP, Lean or Kanban.
