Country Director, Cyprus

Job Position Summary
The Country Director is the face of Fleet for Europe, directly leading all operations in Cyprus and Greece and providing local oversight for a small team in Turkey. This role is responsible for the management of day-to-day vessel management and QHSE operations in Cyprus, leading business development activity in Europe together with colleagues in our Commercial and Vessel Management Departments. and driving commercial success across the region.
This role requires a strategic leader capable of balancing high-level commercial growth with the hands-on operational management of a large, multi-national team.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day Vessel management and QHSE operations
- Accountable for the adherence of all vessels to the established minimum operating standards and all regulatory compliance issues
- Oversee the standardisation of onboard technical standards across all vessels, providing direction in resolving inefficiencies and promoting best practices.
- Ensure a continuous improvement culture is fostered across all QHSE and Vessel Management activities – ensuring improvements in PSC and audit scores, and reducing safety and off hire events
- Provide direct leadership and operational management for the Cyprus office, encompassing a team of 30+ technical and administrative staff.
- Maintain oversight of the smaller team located in Turkey, ensuring alignment with company policies and providing support to resolve escalated operational issues.
Implement the Company commercial & business strategy
- Accountable for providing regional customer and market insights to help inform the design of the commercial strategy to drive business growth across Cyprus, Greece and wider Europe. Taking accountability for revenue growth and BD activity across Europe
- Collaborate with EDs/Fleet CEO, group CEO and others in setting appropriate financial/operational targets for the Company to measure success of the commercial strategy.
- Monitor and report success of implemented strategies
Financial Management
- Responsible for preparing and adhering to the approved financial budget for the region.
- Accountable for the review, approval, and projection of financial/operational budget and for the aggregation and presentation of final budget to Executive Management.
- Assist ED/ CEO in the identification, escalation, and resolution of areas of anomaly in budget reports.
Develop human capital
- Lead, mentor, and develop the country leadership team in Cyprus while providing matrix oversight and support to the team lead in Turkey, fostering a cohesive and high-performance culture across all locations.
- Develop capabilities of direct reports through formal or informal mentorship and implementation of development plans.
- Drive the identification and addressing of gaps in competencies through performance review of direct reports and collaboration with HR.
- Review and comment on workforce plan developed by HR to ensure adequate manpower for critical positions.

Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications
- Minimum bachelors degree qualification in relevant subject, preferably a masters degree
- Proven success in a Country/Regional Director or equivalent leadership position of a global organisation (with specific experience in Europe preferred) .
- Experience leading vessel management and QHSE teams and delivering improved operational and safety performance
- Experience driving business expansion and revenue growth at a regional/country level, including demonstrated success in the Greek shipping market.
- Experience spearheading organisational transformation efforts.
- A minimum of 12-15 years’ experience with the last 3-5 years being successful in a Leadership position in a global maritime organisation.
- Experience in developing and implementing plans, policies, and procedures to support business strategic objectives and service excellence.
