Job Position Summary  
An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for the position of Data Science Analyst to help shape and drive forward the implementation of enhanced analytical capability across our fleet of ships.

Maritime is an industry going through significant disruption and the ability to leverage data to provide insight is crucial - so this role is key for our ability to lead in this space through the use of our NOVA analytics platform (part of the PARIS ecosystem).

This role is a key part of Fleet’s focus to develop leading digital capability to enhance and improve our platforms deployed over 650 ships.


Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications   

 

As a Data Science Analyst, your typical day might include:

 

Development of the NOVA Analytics Platform

  • Planning and executing the development of analytics dashboards and other solutions in line with the Analytics Roadmap. This includes working from initial design to data sourcing/cleansing, model development/validation, implementation, prototyping and testing with end users
  • Use functional understanding alongside data mining techniques to highlight opportunities for further data insight
  • Willingness to learn new techniques proactively with a clear focus on how this can be used to help Fleet

 

Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Working closely with stakeholders and end users to understand domain knowledge and determining how best to deliver actionable results
  • Assisting on building dashboards and drawing ad-hoc data insight in a simple to understand way


Team Working

  • Working collaboratively with the rest of the IT team members – based onshore and offshore – to develop solutions delivered are high-quality and easy-to-support
  • Building analytics capability and understanding across Fleet Management – by being able to explain in simple terms what you are working on and how it helps operational targets

 

Relationship:

 

INTERNAL: 

  • Development Teams (based in HK & India); Ops & Support (based in HK & India); Internal Stakeholders – Director-level and below 

 

EXTERNAL:

  • Interaction with vendors/third parties


Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications

 

ESSENTIAL

  • 3+ years’ experience in a Data Analytics role – specifically in leveraging big data volumes, hands-on statistical analysis process with basic knowledge in Machine Learning & AI Technologies.
  • A proven track-record in developing and landing actionable insight that has translated into real business benefits
  • Exposure and hands-on experience to a broad range of 
    • Database technologies (e.g. SQL, NoSQL, Graph Databases)
    • Data Science Programming Frameworks (e.g. Python, R) and 
    • Data Visualisation Tools (Tableau) 
  • Passion in data analysis, with solid foundation of statistical knowledge, correct advisory on various data tools
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English
  • Degree in Data Science related field - such as Maths, Statistics, Computer Science or similar (Bachelors minimum requirement; Masters preferable) 

 

DESIRABLE

  • Certificates in Tableau or native-cloud platforms
  • Experience in GenerativeAI model hands-on usage and model tuning and configuration
  • Experience on Machine Learning end-to-end projects, with motivation on self-study learning
  • Exposure on Cloud and Big Data technologies (e.g., AWS, MS Azure, Google Cloud, Spark, Hive, Presto).
