Job Position Summary  

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for the position of Data Scientist to lead the Analytics team at Fleet shaping and driving forward the implementation of enhanced analytical capability.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of analytical models using the latest technology stack to assist operational decision working in close collaboration with Board-level stakeholders. Maritime is an industry going through significant disruption and the ability to leverage data to provide predictive and prescriptive analytics so this role is a critical part of using technology to help Fleet lead in this space.

 

This role is a key part of our focus to develop leading digital capability to enhance and improve our platforms deployed over 650 ships and over 25k+ seafarers.

 

Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications   

 

As a Data Scientist, your typical day might include:

 

Leading Analytics Capability Development

  • Plan and execute the development of analytics solutions from initial design to data sourcing/cleansing, model development/validation, implementation, prototyping and testing
  • Utilising data mining techniques (including GenerativeAI) coupled with operational understanding, highlight opportunities for further investigation 
  • Develop and prioritise the roadmap for data science projects to align with overall business strategy

 

Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Working closely with stakeholders and end users to understand analytics needs, translate these into projects and determine how best to deliver actionable results
  • Communicating clearly and concisely across all levels to gain buy-in to ideas and concepts
  • Showcasing results and highlighting actionable insight in a simple to understand way

 

Team Working

  • Working collaboratively with the rest of the IT team members – based onshore and offshore – to develop solutions delivered are high-quality and easy-to-support
  • Being seen as a go-to expert for analytics providing guidance to both the IT team and the wider business


Relationship:

 

INTERNAL: 

  • Development Teams (based in HK & India); Ops & Support (based in HK & India)
  • Internal Stakeholders – including up to Board-level directors

 

EXTERNAL:

  • Interaction with vendors/third parties;

 

Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications

 

ESSENTIAL

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Data Scientist role – specifically in leveraging vast amounts of data with hands-on data science skills including advanced analytics such as Machine Learning and Generative AI
  • A proven track-record in developing and delivering actionable insight that has resulted in real operational benefit
  • Exposure and hands-on experience to a broad range of 
    • Cloud technologies (either in AWS or Google Cloud)
    • Big Data & Database technologies (SQL, Spark, Hive, Presto, NoSQL, Graph Databases)
    • Data Science Programming Frameworks (eg Python, R) and 
    • Data Visualization Tools (e.g. Tableau, QilkSense, PowerBI)
  • Passion in data science, with solid foundation of the knowledge correct advisory on various tools such as Regression, Classification, Computer Vision, NLP, etc.
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring of data science team members to achieve more
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English
  • Bachelors Degree in Data Science related such as Maths, Statistics, Engineering or similar

 

DESIRABLE

  • Masters Degree in Data-Science related fields
  • AWS and Tableau certifications
  • Understanding of Maritime industry
