Job Position Summary: 

The role exists in order to oversee FML's external insurance sales and claims process by setting and driving sales targets and managing client portfolios, adhering to business strategy and SOP.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities: 

 

Drive the sales of FML's insurance packages
• Accounting for sales of FML insurance packages
• Collaborate with Head of Insurance to define annual sales targets of FML insurance packages, based on historical data and future projections
• Drive the achievement of sales targets through direct reports and monitor and report progress to Head of Insurance regularly


Manage insurance portfolios
• Accountable for the management of FML’s insurance portfolios
• Act as the interface between customers, FML and insurance brokers to escalate customer requests to ensure that queries are resolved, insurance needs are met, and claims are processed in a timely manner
• Guide negotiations between customers and direct reports/claims officers to resolve conflicts, escalating to Head of Insurance if necessary


Drive continuous improvement within the department
• Responsible for implementing continuous improvement initiatives through self or other employees within the department
• Collaborate with Head, Insurance and employees within the department to identify improvements that can be made to policies, processes or technological infrastructure.
• Implement identified improvement initiatives within the department, in adherence to developed timeline and budget
• Monitor adherence to timeline and budget for continuous improvement projects and technological implementations within the department and report progress to Head, Insurance
• Monitor and report improvement in outcomes within the department to Head of Insurance


Oversee day-to-day operations
• Responsible for managing relationship with insurance brokers
• Build and sustain a long-term professional relationship with insurance brokers by ensuring a win-win situation as often as possible during commercial interactions.

Review and report costs
• Responsible for adherence of all department operations to budget
• Accountable for the review, aggregation and presentation of the annual budget for the department
• Assist Head, Insurance in the identification, escalation and resolution of areas of anomaly in budget reports for the department


Develop human capital
• Develop capabilities of direct reports through formal or informal mentorship and implementation of development plans
• Drive the identification and addressing of gaps in competencies through performance review of direct reports and collaboration with HR
• Review and comment on workforce plan developed by HR to ensure adequate

Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications: 

• Proven success in a position dealing with Insurance Brokering or other Insurance related matters
• Experience managing and developing insurance product for large clientele
• Strong understanding of the fleet management industry, maritime insurance and brokering
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration and Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers
