Coal Origination Manager
Caravel Resources is a leading provider of solutions across the industrial dry bulk value chain. Our focus is on the trading of industrial dry bulk raw materials, principally those used in the steel and energy industries – iron ore, coal and coke.
Job Position Summary
An experienced trader with good knowledge of the coal industry in Indonesia required to join the thermal coal procurement team in Jakarta. The successful candidate will be a part of the team responsible for origination. Product knowledge and commercial knowledge are prerequisites.
Key Role and Responsibilities
Procurement:
- Develop and implement key sourcing strategies aligned with the Company’s objectives
- Work actively to grow and develop the supplier base
- Build and maintain strong business relationships
- Maintain good relationships with both major and non-mainstream miners to get regular infrmation on their production plan, sales plan
Market Research & Analysis:
- Provide intelligence to the Research team by providing accurate information on suppliers / miners including production cycles, logistics issues, and expansion plans
- Liase with vessel agents and other agencies to obtain, update and share information on coal vessels loading in Indonesia
- Engage in daily / weekly market fundamentals and analytics discussions to help develop nearby and forward trading strategies
Operations:
- Supervise and execute contract terms as well as finalising negotiations as required
- Monitor and ensure smooth execution of shipments
- Support the Operations team, as required
Other:
- Develop into an integral part of the coal trading team liaising regularly with trade operations, risk management, and research desks
- Attend meetings and conferences
- Other ad-hoc duties requested by the Director
Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications
Education / experience / technical skills required:
- 8-10 years+ of coal trading experience
- Good technical understanding of the product and dry bulk logistics
- Established relationships and contacts
- Track record of developing and implementing long and short-term strategic sourcing initiatives
- Solid understanding of contract terms, LC terms and related commercial documents
- Proven business development skills
General skills / attributes / others:
- High level of integrity, commitment and loyalty to the Company and work
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate ideas succinctly – both verbal and in written format
- Entrepreneurial – able to be a self-starter, willingness to take on new challenges; be open-minded and willing to grow professionally and personally
- Team player is a must
- Good interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build, maintain and enhance business relationships
- Strong capability of working under pressure and tight timelines
- Independant thinker – able to think independently, and use available information to provide a point of view to the Director and other parts of the Senior Management Team
- Profiiency in Bahasa, is an advantage, but not essential
- Strong ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
- Strong math and computer skills are preferred
- Logical thinker with strong commercial acumen
- High level of attention to detail
