Job Summary
The Vessel Accounting AGM/DGM is responsible for supervising the financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, and cost control of assigned vessels managed by the company. The role ensures accurate vessel financial records, timely reporting to ship owners and stakeholders, compliance with maritime accounting standards, and effective coordination with operations, procurement, crewing, and technical departments.
Responsible for ownership of vessel financials, reporting, budgeting, and stakeholder management.
Ensure timely closing of vessel accounts and reporting as per agreed service level towards vessels owners
End-to-End responsible for managing team leaders and vessel accountant under their purview and focal point for coordination with all stake holders including clients and inter department
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Financial oversight; budgeting; reporting approval; cash flow monitoring; audit management; team leadership; system enhancement, Company policies, process control and improvement.
Vessel Financial Management
- Manage complete accounting functions for assigned vessels/fleet.
- Monitor vessel operating expenses (OPEX), capital expenditures (CAPEX), and vessel balance sheet items.
- Review and approve fund requests.
- Ensure proper allocation of expenses to vessel accounts and budget codes.
- Ensure corporate fund balance matches with vessel fund balance
- Monitor fund balances and settlement of accounts with Owners
- Approve provisional SOA for Handover vessels.
- Monitor Handover vessels closure status
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Monitor actual expenses versus budget and analyse variances.
- Review monthly cost reports and financial analysis to management
Financial Reporting
- Review / Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for vessel owners and management.
- Ensure timely closing of vessel accounts and reporting as per agreed service level towards vessels owners
- Maintain accurate accruals, prepayments, and amortisation schedules.
- Support consolidated financial reporting requirements.
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with company policies, maritime accounting practices and other relevant Vessel Owners' reporting requirements (e.g. SOX, SOC 1, ISEA 3402)
- Coordinate internal and external audits related to vessel accounts.
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails.
- Support tax, statutory, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Team Management
- Supervise vessel accounting team.
- Provide guidance, training, and performance management.
- Improve accounting processes and internal controls.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Manage and maintain strong relationship with Ship Owners
- Liaise with auditors, vendors, port agents, and internal departments.
- Coordinate closely with technical, procurement, crewing, and operations teams regarding vessel expenditures.
Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications
- Qualified Chartered Accountant
- > 10 years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, and external audits
- Experience in a customer-facing finance role is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP is preferred.
- Prior experience in a Ship Management or Shipping Industry is an advantage
