Job Position Summary
DGM - Vessel Accounting role is to manage the financials and accounting matters for all vessels under the Group, co-ordinate and communicate with Ship Owners on such matters, monitoring the operating budgets for the vessels and providing accurate high-level analysis to Group Financial Controller, adhering to business strategy & vessel accounting functions, supervising and leading the team of sub-ordinates under the vessel accounting profile.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Financial and Accounting matters for the Vessels managed by Group
• Responsible for all financial and accounting related matters for the vessels managed by the Geographical Location / Group
• Drive  timely and accurate compilation of vessel accounts and other reporting requirements for all the vessels under Geographical Location / Group through team of vessel accountants.
• Ensure all accounting requirements of Ship Owners are rigorously followed and ensure cordial relations with them
• Drive the derivation of periodic financial forecasts to measure budget against actual expenditure to inform vessel operating performance to relevant department heads and their managers
• Drive the monthly management information reporting for overdue balances from the Ship owners and ensure recovery of funds on timely matter.
• Ensure departmental KPI's are achieved and monitored on timely basis
• Collaborate with all vessel accountants to identify the different revenue streams and ensure timely recovering of the same from Ship Owners
• Drive the derivation of periodical financial position for all accounts receivables and submit the analysis and evaluation to Group Financial Controller

 

Provide decision support
• Accountable for providing decision support to relevant internal stakeholders through vessel's financial analysis.
•  Collaborate with relevant internal stakeholders to examine and address causes of variance in budget or forecasts, and present findings to Group Finance Controller 

 

Drive continuous improvement within the department
• Responsible for implementing and driving continuous improvement initiatives through managers and employees  within the department
• Collaborate with Group Financial Controller and employees within the department to identify improvements that can be made to policies, processes or technological infrastructure.
• Drive the operationalisation and implementation of improvement initiatives within the department through managers and employees
• Monitor adherence to timeline and budget for continuous improvement projects and technological implementations within the department and report progress to Group Financial Controller
• Monitor and report improvement in outcomes within the department to Group Financial Controller

 

Oversee day-to-day operations
• Accountable for the coordination of budget schedule
• Assist Group Financial Controller in the development of Group’s budget timeline for the financial year, taking into account the different business cycles of each department
• Collaborate with heads of functions to collate and clarify budget data in adherence with developed timeline

 

Develop human capital
• Develop capabilities of direct reports through formal or informal mentorship and implementation of development plans
• Drive the identification and addressing of gaps in competencies through performance review of direct reports and collaboration with HR
• Primarily maintains relationships with Group Financial Controller, General Manager of the Operating Location, Heads of Overseas Locations, Team Members, and other heads of departments in the function
• Primarily maintains relationships with Customers (Ship Owners) of the Group
• Resolves day-to-day conflicts between direct reports to align efforts in achieving objectives and conflicts between the Team and inter-department stakeholders to ensure company interests are protected

        
Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications

• Proven success as Accounts / Finance Manager or equivalent position in reputed global ship management companies
• Strong understanding of the ship management industry and shipping operations
• In-depth understanding of business model of the ship management industry
• In-depth knowledge and experience in the discipline of Accounting and Finance
• Master's degree with over 15 years relevant experience exclusively in global ship management companies, managing, supervising and leading a team of sub-ordinates
