Job Position Summary
Managing the Maritime Security of vessels under Company management.  

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities
Maritime Security Management  
 Responsible for communication, promotion and implementation of Company's Security and Cyber Security Policy on board vessels. 
 Monitor daily status of ships plying in the High‐Risk Areas (HRA) and compliance as per Company policy and BMP guidance. 
 Liaise with PMSC (Security Companies) to make arrangement of security guards and/or security escort vessels for ships entering HRA. 
 Monitor daily status of security guards and/or security escort vessels arrangement for vessel entering HRA. 
 Monitor the ship security alert system, and its testing as per the Flag state / company policy.  
 To investigate and report to 3rd parties, as applicable, any security incident / Near miss on vessels, and maintain records on PARIS. 
 Review and approve Security risk assessment on PARIS, as per the RA criteria.  
 To prepare security bulletins / alerts / circulars and promulgate to Fleet, as and when required. 
 To formulate trend analysis of security incidents, internal and external audit observations. 
 To carry out annual review of SSP and Ship security assessments, compile analysis and promulgate to vessels, as applicable.  
 Follow up with vessels/various departments for implementation of corrective measures identified for security incidents and internal 
and external audit observations. 
 To attend vessels from time to time for purpose of inspection/assessment/audits/investigation, and as deemed appropriate.  
 To assist in Office audits / TMSA preparations.  
 To carry out shipboard Security assessments / Investigations / Internal audits / QHSE Inspections, as required. 
 To assist with revisions of Security Policy, QHSE manuals and / or preparation of new QHSE manuals, as required. 
 To assist in the Management of Change (MOC) process and upkeep of the documentation, as required. 
 To carry out shipboard and shore‐based training in matters as deemed appropriate from time to time. 
 To assist in handling contingencies, as per the responsibility laid under the Contingency Planning Manual. 
 To carry out any other tasks that may be assigned from time to time, in order to support the Security Cell and Quality department.
Regulatory/Legislative Statutory Compliance 
 100% compliance with International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Flag State and Port State rules and regulations 
Financial Management 
 Work closely with Technical staff, purchasing and finance controllers to ensure budget is within the agreed variables/targets *(current 
target 3% variance). Optimize the voyage to reduce cost for security arrangements.

Quality & Continuous Improvement 
 Demonstrates a complete understanding of the Safety & Security policies & procedures and ensures that the on‐shore and off‐shore 
employees operate at the same level of understanding and awareness. 
 Scan the environment and recommend improvement in processes to enhance productivity and efficiency in the system. 
 Drive implementation of approved ‘Continuous Improvement’ projects in collaboration with the Quality team 

Health, Safety and Environment Compliance 
 Responsible for creating and sustaining a positive safety culture on‐board all vessels and in office. 
 Responds to emergencies within the agreed time limit, as per contingency planning manual. 
 Ensures a safe & compliant working environment is provided by demonstrating a complete and accurate understanding of the health  & safety policies and practices of the organisation. 
 Responsible for corrective action being implemented to remedy safety hazards or risks and restore a safe working environment on 
board vessels. Escalate to Manager in the event of the hazards/risks exceeding authority limits provided in the role. 
 Owns and responsible for delivery of safety messages/training of company employees during site or vessel visits.  
People and Leadership Management 
 Articulates clear and specific goals for employees ashore and on board vessels under management. 
 Lead, coach, engage, motivate, mentor employees to develop their strengths and build their capabilities as per their defined roles and 
personal goals 
 Responsible for continuous performance discussions with direct reports to drive learning and self‐improvement 
 Manage and maintain the talent pool by engaging top performers and taking definitive action on bottom performers

 

Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential: 
 Bachelor’s degree/Diploma or equivalent in Marine Engineering/ Navigation/Internationally recognized shipping degree/qualification 
 Hold Certificate of Competency II/2 (for Master or Chief Officer) or Certificate of Competency III/2 (for Chief Engineer/Second Engineer), 
under STCW Code 
 Experience as Master or Chief Officer or Chief Engineer/Second Engineer of a vessel. 
Desirable: 
 Participated in Maritime security preparations on vessel, preferably as ship security officer (SSO).  
 Knowledge of Flag state, Classifications Society procedures/regulations, concerning Maritime security. 
 Writing and preparing safety alerts/bulletins/reports/data analysis.  
 IT literate and computer savvy.  
 Business Administration qualification will be an added advantage
