Job Summary 

The Vessel Accounting Team Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day vessel accounting activities for managed vessels and supporting accurate financial reporting, budget monitoring, and expense control. The role acts as a key link between vessel accountants, management, technical teams, and vessel owners to ensure timely and accurate financial operations.
The ideal candidate should possess strong accounting knowledge, leadership capability, and experience in preferably with reputed ship management companies.

Responsible for review, control, and supervision of vessel accounting activities and overall quality control of the activity performed by vessel accounting team, Manage relationships with vessel owners and key stakeholders

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities   

 

Vessel Accounting Operations

  • Overseeing daily accounting activities for assigned vessels.
  • Review and verify vessel-related invoices, journal entries etc.
  • Ensure accurate accounting of:
  • Crew wages and related costs
  • Lubricant expenses
  • Port disbursements and agency expenses
  • Repairs and maintenance costs
  • Technical and operational expenses
  • Insurance and statutory costs
  • Maintain accurate vessel-wise accounting records and reconciliations.
  • Review provisional SOA for Handover vessels
  • Fund status and settlement of accounts
  • Monitor Non-opex fund status (DD/PD/NB)

 

Accounts Payable & Fund Management

  • Review supplier invoice process KPI through Eye-share
  • Coordinate timely processing of invoices/journals
  • Monitor vessel cash balances and funding requirements.
  • Ensure proper documentation and supporting records for all transactions.
  • Monitor Pre-payment settlements

 

Coordination & Stakeholder Support

  • Coordinate with technical, crewing, procurement, and operations departments for financial information.
  • Liaise with ship owners, managers, auditors, and vendors regarding accounting matters.
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies and operational finance issues.

 

Team Supervision

  • Coach/Guide and support vessel accountants in daily activities.
  • Review team deliverables for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Assist in training new team members on systems and procedures.
  • Support implementation of process improvements and standardization.
  • Carry-out periodic performance evaluation of direct reports

 

Job Experience

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant
  • > 6 years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, and external audits
  • Strong working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Experience in a customer-facing finance role is highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP is preferred
  •  Prior experience in a Ship Management or Shipping Industry is an advantage
