Job Position Summary

The Head, Branch Office role exists to ensure the continuous success of the Dry / Tanker Cargo fleet management business by setting up growth strategies, performance standards, ensuring FML crewing manpower needs are met by implementing growth plans and creating a competitive advantage, adhering to FML business strategy and budget.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities :

 

Set and implement talent pipeline strategy for the company

• Accountable for developing a strategy to build talent pipelines to meet the deck and engine crewing needs for FML India
• Collaborate with Head, Sourcing India to contextualise  manpower and resourcing strategies for FML Group to India,  based on analysis of local recruitment landscape and workforce planning 
• Drive the identification and securing of talent pipelines for deck and engine crew through department heads, providing guidance to ensure alignment to overall crewing strategy if necessary

 

Monitor quality of FML crew in India

• Accountable for maintaining FML crew standards through assessment and training
• Collaborate with various FPD teams  to develop an aligned assessment and training framework to ensure hiring criteria and quality of training for FML crew meets standards defined at a Group level
• Derive high level analysis from performance appraisal results to assess success of hiring criteria and crew training, and address inadequacies if needed

Adapt Group technological and human competencies improvement roadmap within Dry Cargo/Tankers 

•  Accountable for generating a competitive advantage for FML's  crewing needs in India through superior technological and human competencies
• Derive high level insights from knowledge of local talent and current state of technological and human competency  to contextualise  Group improvement roadmap  within the country
•  Collaborate with head office to develop improvement roadmap for crewing needs of Dry Cargo/Tankers  technological and human competencies and drive its implementation through direct and indirect reporting lines

 

Drive continuous improvement within the department

• Responsible for implementing and driving continuous improvement initiatives through employees  within the department
• Collaborate with reportees   and employees within the department to identify improvements that can be made to policies, processes or technological infrastructure
• Drive the operationalization and implementation of improvement initiatives within the branch through employees
• Monitor adherence to timeline and budget for continuous improvement projects and technological implementations within the department and report progress to reporting manager.
• Monitor and report improvement in outcomes within the branch to COO, India Operations.

 

Oversee day-to-day operations

• Accountable for the employee engagement levels of FML crew
• Liaise with head office for advanced planning, crew training.
• Oversee the standardisation of crewing management across all Dry Cargo/Tankers vessels, providing direction in resolving inefficiencies and promoting best practices when needed.
• Collaborate with FPD teams to derive high level analysis from employee engagement surveys to identify strengths and weaknesses of current HR framework  in the country, and report findings to COO, India Operations.
Oversee day to day admin, welfare of office and employees. 


Manage and review costs 

• Responsible for adherence of branch office overheads, crewing cost including training, airfare and non-chargeable expenses 
• Assist COO, India Operations in the identification, escalation and resolution of areas of anomaly in expense reports for the branch

 

Develop human capital 

• Develop capabilities of direct reports through formal or informal mentorship and implementation of development plans
• Drive the identification and addressing of gaps in competencies through performance review of direct reports and collaboration with HR
• Review and comment on workforce plan developed by HR to ensure adequate manpower for critical positions.

 

Job Experience, Functional Knowledge and Qualifications

• Proven success in leading crew management team in a global ship management organisation
• In-depth understanding of the maritime industry, local crewing demographic and various aspects of crew management
• Strong understanding of operations in the ship management industry 
• Hold FG Class 2 certificate of competency under STCW Code
